seriously, wtf??!? What is with the end of the world type natural disasters?

So the power cut off around 5 ish and didn't come back on until like 8pm. Not too bad but it's the first time something like this has happened and we didn't know how long it would last.

Of course it had to happen when I have a final and powerpoint presentation due.

And of course, it had to happen just before dinner. Because if cooking wasn't already fun, try doing in the dark is even better. For some reason, it's kinda hard to tell if water is boiling in the dark, especially when it's storming. I'm super thankful for the fact that the stove is gas. Otherwise, I'd starve. for realz. 'Cause I haven't been grocery shopping in close to 3 weeks and all I have is canned or dried stuff. I think it is safe to say that my tendency to stock up on food has saved me from starvation many, many times. Too bad none of it can be eaten as is. Hence the cooking in the dark.

Anyway, power came back on and that was awesome. I went online to check what was up with the screwy electricity. Turns out it was only just a LIGHTNING STORM/TORNADO/WATERSPOUT thingy...no big deal, whatev.........

No seriously, WHAT??

First a tsunami (and while Honolulu wasn't hit badly, a couple houses and cars got washed into the sea on some of the other islands. seriously, sucks for them. how do you recoup your stuff/mortgage/losses when your beach front property is under water/bobbing along in the ocean?) and now a couple of waterspouts/tornados??!?

WTF. It's like, welcome to paradise! Here, have a little sun, sand, TASTE OF THE APOCALYPSE, waves, hula, island music. Aloha and Mahalo. Hope you enjoyed your stay!

Come on Hawaii, the world can end after I'm done with finals. Gimme three days and I won't mind sirens, natural disasters and blackouts. Promise.

Have to admit tho, the pictures are kinda pretty, slightly breathtaking. I can understand why some people chase storms. Here's what some friends took with their iphones from their dorm/on the street. And the bigger ones are what I got off the net.

seriously shady...

so it's 2 am and there are some shady buggers parked right outside our driveway and talking really loudly (have been for a while too!). Oh, San Jose....you never cease to surprise me with how shady you can be. Don't take this the wrong way but our neighbourhood is mostly white and hispanic so the fact that black dudes might be dealing outside our house is kinda freaky. ummmm, hope they don't take the car. otherwise, we're screwed. lol. (I'm not being racist since i would still be suspicious if a bunch of asians/hispanics/caucasians/etc were practically hanging out on our front porch.)

okay, now that I'm done with that fun little bit of paranoia, racism and stereotyping, I'm moving on.

mmmm, back! yeah, it's been a while but I've been taken over by a writing frenzy and it hasn't stopped. Mostly it's been about all the traveling I've done in the last year or so but I've gone past 20 pages in the last few days and it doesn't look like I'll be stopping anytime soon. At this rate, I'll have a thesis or book by the end of the month. Will be posting bits and pieces of it up here so everyone can relive my memories of going round the world wit me :) and more food posts to come....half of which didn't quite turn out...oh well. laterz, i gotta go spy on the shady dealings from my unlit kitchen window. Yes, I'm one of those nosy aunties.

So special.....sigh

Okay. i just figured out what was driving me crazy about the read me cuts and it is the stupidest thing ever. I can't believe I spent hours.....HOURS!!... on it. Bleh. I really am quite 'special'.

one thing I can't figure out is how to get a space between the date and the main body of the post. I'm not sure where or what code should be used in the html. meh.

success!!

I've been fiddling around with the html blahblah using some pretty awesome tutorials (which just reinforces the reasons why I'm not and never will be a computer science person) and even though I don't understand half of what they tell me to do, I've got a blog layout that is almost what I want. I say almost cos there are some things I don't like about it but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

So, verdict?

Success!! Yay.

when did blogger change on me?

I don't know when or how it happened but I just realized that blogger is exceptionally hard to use when you want to go beyond the basic functions. I've started writing drafts for my recipe posts but I've hit a road block - the posts are too damn long and I am technologically challenged! Apparently blogger has changed without me noticing it. hmmmm. curious. A few years back, on another now defunct blog, posting pics and all that jazz was easy. Now, everything requires javascript, css and a whole load of crap I have no understanding off. It might have always been the case but I vaguely remember it being easier than this. This sucks.

It'll be slow going but I guess I'm going to have to teach myself how to change the bloody templates since I don't like the ones they offer, how to make cuts for long posts, etc. Sigh. Should have gone for a livejournal account. Dang.
