Santa Monica Boulevard
A little late (like 2 weeks) but better late than never. This has been sitting in my drafts section for a while and all because of the stupid pic upload thing that bloger has. it's dumb. i hate it. but i guess i'll have to try again. Here's our hectic LA weekend!
Awesome weekend full of food and laughter. Literally. That's all we did - eat and make fun of each other :) oh yeah, and drive a lot. And get stuck in traffic. Oh LA, visiting is nice but no way would I want to live there.
Anyway, it was an Inaian gathering/family road trip (+ Han) where we met up with another Wong (not related) and had ourselves a ball :) As usual, Malaysian time ran rampant and we left later than planned in a crappy little chevy something....it was not a comfortable car at all. Why were we renting? Beats me. But the one in charge wanted to rent and I was totally expecting something more comfortable than our tiny ford focus but apparently, Han, in accordance with his epic bromance with all his bros, went to rent a car with a friend who was also going down to LA for the weekend.....and lost out on getting a comfortable car....oh Han. Tsk tsk. The trip down was pretty terrible....we blame the shitty little american car. Nothing was automatic (except the stereo and the gear box), the seats were rock hard and the backseat kept vibrating and conveyed every little bump in the road to us. Feeling sick and extremely nauseous, my plan to just sleep all the way down was shot to pieces. Bleh. Got to LA at around 6am and proceeded to wake Kai up :) Poor dude. We decided to crash for a bit before heading out for breakfast but Merv had downed a couple of starbucks espresso shots and decided to commune with the bums on the beach in Santa Monica instead. I'm sure it was a lovely experience but the hour or so of sleep seemed like a better option to me.

L: The boys; C: Merv emo-ing on his own early in the morning; R: The Sibs. I bit him 'cos he was being super annoying.
From there, we began the crazy gorging. And it really was. We started off with dim sum at 11am, had shaved ice desserts after, went to see the beach in Santa Monica only to abort the plan when it appeared to be extremely crowded and ended up on the promenade where the boys decided to have crepes and a korean taco, then dinner at what is apparently the Asian version of hooters (with a very interesting theme) then boba for dessert. Supper was supposed to be at this place where the geoduck was apparently awesome and sold at 5 bucks a pound after 10 BUT after a whole day of non stop eating, we all agreed that there was a big possibility that horrible accidents (of the puking kind) would happen in the car or the bathroom later on if we attempted supper.
The next day, not suffering too much from the first day, we took it as a sign to go forth and eat once more. Had a great breakfast at this Hong Kong hole in the wall then dessert and then udon for lunch. We left LA stuffed to the gills but did we see much? Nope. We didn't think there was much to see and the LA marathon was running so all we got to experience in LA was the atrocious traffic. All in all, a good trip.... rushed but good :)
Upper L: The epic bromance; C: Three stooges on the promanade; R: Three monkeys
Lower L: They go one way; R: We go the other....to the left, to the left... lol
Lower L: They go one way; R: We go the other....to the left, to the left... lol
At a stop at 4/5 am, Han goes into starbucks and gets a breakfast sandwich which turned out to be a very expensive crotch warmer since it was "too hot to eat right now" but never got eaten since he fell asleep and he proceeded to ignore it on Kai's coffee table for the rest of the trip.
Leaving the dim sum restaurant, we spot a statue in the parking lot...
"Hey look, it's a big cock!"
"What the hell? Why is there a big cock in the parking lot of a seafood restaurant?"
"Let's go take a picture with the big cock!"
All about the Merv. L: Communing with the random big cock; C: passed out between food joints; R: Urm...contemplating riding the big cock?? Lol.
While standing in the middle of the road to take pictures of Merv with .... his big cock,
"Eh, careful, got car coming."
"Don't die taking pictures of the big cock."
"Haha, can you imaging what the headlines/tombstone would say?"
"Died taking pictures with a big cock!"
"Died while standing next to his big cock!"
Lol.....we got together and reverted to our highschool years :) Gotta love the juvenile humour :D
After dinner, while walking back to the car, Han was extoling the virtues of the Taiwanese hooter girls:
"blah blah ... Ya lah. Everyone there was good looking man, even the customers...."
*turns around and points at Han*
"except for YOU!"
*5 secs of stunned silence*
"hahahahahahahahaha...."
Hmmm...I guess this one doesn't transfer well to the written word but it was totally funny at the time :) Afterwards, lots of ugly Han jokes cropped up. lol, poor Han....got blamed for everything this weekend.
Kai, driving up to the parking machine to get a ticket, suddenly remembers that the car is lacking automatic everything:
"Oh shit"
*furiously works to turn the crank so the window goes down*
man, I wish I had gotten a video of that..... he looked like a monkey trying to turn the crank on those wind up boxes where the clowns jump out of :D
Han, reveals his weird music tastes:
" Yeah, I like instrumental stuff, like when it starts with piano intros... blah blah....and I like the African war songs!!"
Needless to say, after we found out (the hard way) that Han has the combined musical tastes of a 6 year old girl, an eurotrash/electronic pop junkie, a 67 year old hippie and a tone deaf monkey, we banished his ipod in favour of a MJ marathon.
When a guy nearly side swipes us during a traffic jam on the highway:
"WTF?!? Oi, we're gonna pass him. Let's go stare cock."
*Everyone proceeds to stare at the asshole when we pass him and I give him an extra dirty stare for good measure*
Oh, Malaysians....lol
When Kai spills his glass of sour plum juice at the asian hooters and it flows off the table on Han's side, he jumps in the only direction he can..... almost onto Merv's lap:
"Isn't that taking your epic bromance a little too far?"
A super short trip but definitely filled with great company, food and laughter. What more could a person ask for??
